Banská Bystrica is a city and municipality in Slovakia situated on the River Hron in the valley of the Low Tatras, the Veľká Fatra, and the Kremnica Mountains. The city is one of the most inhabited settlements of the country. Banská Bystrica is known since the 9th century when here were built churches, forts, shops and others. Banská Bystrica is the capital of the region and has the population of about 80,000 people. Here are located the Matej Bel University and a lot of summer and winter resorts. The main sectors of economy are tourism, wood and mechanical industries.

The city of Banská Bystrica is an ancient city with a long history. It preserved a lot of historical monuments and natural landscapes. The main historical sights are located near the central square of the city, the SNP Square. On the square is located the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, which is the major religious building of Banská Bystrica. Among other significant features of Banská Bystrica are Art Nouveau fountain, Plague Column and black obelisk devoted to the USSR soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the city from the Nazis.

But the main tourist attraction of Banská Bystrica is the City Castle. It served as the defensive fort and protected the treasury. Now there only remains of the walls and several churches.

Costa Cruises: more cruises in Asia
From 2013 tours offered by Costa Cruises in Asia will be served by two liners. In addition to the regional routes operated by Costa Victoria ship the company will also present sea voyages on another ship - Costa Atlantica. Viking Line builds unique ferries
The Finnish company Viking Line will be one of the first in Europe and the whole world to introduce a unique cruise ship.
